Ginebra al Doctor

Drink alone or with a person

Everyone knows that good physicians possess secret knowledge, but not everyone knows that for time immemorial the best physicians have had direct access to the esoteric archives of great cocktails. Here’s one recipe that has leaked. Note that for optimum appreciation of this beverage, you’ll need a tin cup–and a relatively large one.

Ingredients

2 oz. gin (good=good, better=better, etc.)

.25 oz. elderflower liqueur

dash of hopped grapefruit bitters

1 oz. tonic water

juice of 1/4 lemon and/or 1/2 lime

cubed ice

sparkling water

Instructions

  1. Add ingredients over ice in the following order: gin, elderflower liqueur, bitters, citrus juice, tonic water, sparking water. If you don’t do it in this precise order, it will probably taste the same, but just do what you’re told, please.
  2. Stir with the thicker end of a bamboo chopstick OR the knife you used to cut the citrus. If you use the knife, try not to dull the blade on the insides of the cup.
  3. Drink.
